Music is everything, the backbone of all my creative endeavors. Whether it's writing, painting, or jewelry making, I'm always listening to music. I listen to a wide range of everything: from classical to gangster rap and everything in between. Whenever I write a scene or draw a picture, I use music to set the tone, often times playing a certain song on repeat until I get it right.
Each novel I've written has its own playlist that I listened to religiously during its creation. For REVENGE AND THE WILD every scene was written to a certain song on this list. To keep from relieving spoilers I won't mention which song belongs to which scene, but you can guess if you'd like--though it wouldn't be easy. You'd think a big fight scene would be paired with Children of Bodom or In Flames, but instead it's, In This Shirt, by the Irrepressibles. Keeps things a little weird, the way I like it.
In This Shirt by The Irrepressibles
Desperation Train by Death By Stereo
Cecil Brown by Hank Williams III
Big Guns by Ruelle
The Passenger by Iggy Pop
Are You Dead Yet by Children Of Bodom
Civilian by Wye Oak
Krokodil by Brotha Lynch Hung (explicit as fvck!)
Reflect The Storm by In Flames
Keep The Streets Empty For Me by Fever Rey
100 Years by Typhoon
Cold Dark Woods by HillStomp
Faithless Is He... by Shai Hulud
Wait So Long by Trampled By Turtles
Wolf & I by Oh Land
Waiting Room by Fugazi
Old Devils by William Elliot Whitmore

Twitter Chat
This evening (9/5/15) at 8PM CST--which I believe is 6PM PST and 9PM EST. I would Google that if I were you though, just in case. Numbers give me headaches--I'll be participating in a Twitter chat with the hashtag #SS15, hosted by the wonderful Talina Roma (@talinaroma). Not to be mistaken with the same hashtag which stands for Swim Suit fifteen. I have nothing to say about swim suits. I hate summer. But I love books and writing and random things, which is what I'll be chatting about tonight along with other authors and bloggers. Prizes will be involved, including a chance to win an ARC of REVENGE AND THE WILD! Hope to see you there.
Also, I wanted to say congrats to Allison (@maliciousglee) for winning the ARC giveaway which included a copy of my book as well as a handmade necklace!

Twitter Contest
Yay, my first blog post! I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but I'm easily distracted. I'm really going to make an attempt at it this time though, posting once a week about writing, books I love, and publishing stuff. The process between writing a book and getting it published is a journey walked through molasses so I might throw in some random stuff too. For example: I had a dream the other night about HBO making Reading Rainbow for adults and all the moms and dads gathered in a circle on the floor, listening quietly as George Takei read an erotic novel ...
More about that another time. Today I'm gonna talk about a giveaway I'm doing on Twitter, running right now through September 4, 2015. You can win an ARC (advanced reading copy) of my debut YA novel REVENGE AND THE WILD, out with Balzer and Bray/HarperCollins February 2, 2016. Less than six months! Feels like both an eternity and a blink away. Along with the ARC, I'll be giving away a necklace I made inspired by the book. I hope whoever wins likes them both. I've put my blood, sweat, and tears into them--just kidding, that would be gross. But really, it's been lot of work, a lot of stress, and a shit-ton of fun.
